Uncle John, there are many many things I will miss about you, but it’s your silly sense of humour I will miss the most. You knew how to make everyone laugh whether they were 5 years old or 95 and could always be relied upon for a practical joke or two. As children having tea at Nanna’s you were always our go-to for permission to eat her cakes, your rule of “no more than 6” being by far the most generous of anyone we asked. You were a talented poet and I still remember the poems you wrote for nanna and grandads wedding anniversary and also Katy’s wedding, which had that rare ability to make you belly laugh and move you to tears all within a few sentences. You knew how to fix everything, whether it was a grazed knee, a broken toy, or one of those random things you assemble from a christmas cracker that never seemed to fit together properly. Your time was shorter than it should have been but it was quality time. We love you and miss you x
